The tidy up in December has turned out to be hugely useful. Since my last post, though, I’ve had to rebuild the greenhouse twice after storms and one of those times also included planting seeds for a second time.

This means I’m a couple of weeks behind where I’d like to be, but when has that ever stopped me.
On the windowsill in the living room are cucumbers, cucamelons, tomatoes, peppers, chillies, aubergines, watermelons and canteloupe. The melons are doing surprisingly well, while the tomatoes have only poked through this morning.

In the greenhouse, sweetpeas, tomatoes (that may or may not have survived greenhouse destruction number two), salads, marigolds, cauliflowers, sage, summer savoury, peas, ginger, beef and onion plant, basil, spring onions, nasturtiums, beans, kale, asters and callaloo.

Outside, lettuce and liquorice, atlas carrots, beetroot, purslane, goosefoot and radishes. Plus I’ve repotted herbs – strawberry mint, lemon mint, pineapple mint, oregano, chives, thyme, pink thyme, lemon curd thyme, after eight mint as well as lavender.

There are aphids attacking the roses and slugs and snails everywhere – no surprises there. The first flowers have arrived on the strawberries as well, but only the most sheltered!

I don’t think I’d quite appreciated how much was planted until I wrote that! This really does need to be the best year ever!
